Well, it's hard to believe but our time here at the TEARS Centre is almost over. Even though a large part of the time spent here was focused on the children's camp and our involvement with them, the larger focus of this partnership really came together for me this afternoon as we spent time in the barrio visiting families that we have been in touch with over the years.

The expressions of recognition and may I even say happiness and joy on the faces of the people in the barrio was priceless and worth every effort that has been put into this. Even though this was my first time here, I felt welcomed and certainly included as part of the team that these people have come to recognize over the years.

Their warmth and acceptance has certainly had me look at my willingness to be more open and accepting of the people that cross my path in my personal and business life. The kitchen staff were especially generous with their time and talents and as a small thank-you we presented each of them with a handmade apron made by a few ladies on our team.

It was also amazing to see our team members so enthused, excited and curious about the lives of the people we visited and to show a genuine love and interest in their lives. This is what establishing community is all about. Although we have come down here to co-partner with these people, I can see that there are certain truths and lessons that cross all languages, cultures and economic barriers.

It is truly evident that this has come from the hand of the Lord and His work here with the leadership, and I pray that this can be something that we can carry with us back to Canada and into the future at Varsity Bible Church.

The team is heading back to Canada tomorrow, so much more tanned and prepared to act a little silly. Thanks for following us. Next year, think of making the trip!
